Jack McMahon was named the Rockets’ coach, and the team’s first draft pick in 1967 was the future Hall of Fame coach Pat Riley. However, the Rockets went on to lose 67 games in their inaugural season, which was then an NBA record for losses in a season. The late 60′s brought new young players to the rockets, Hayes, Murphy, Tomjanovich anchored a solid base for the team. In 71 new ownership moved the team to Houston and the nickname Rockets was a natural with the space station work in Houston. The team stayed keep a mediocre record through the mid 70′s. In 76 a trade bring Moses Malone to the team started an upward swing with wins.
